  • EDUCATION AND TRAINING

Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from The University of Texas at San Antonio. Master of Arts in Marriage and Family Therapy from St. Edward’s University in Austin Texas.

My path to becoming a licensed marriage and family therapist started with a strong desire to help people improve their relationships and mental health. After completing my undergraduate degree in psychology, I gained experience working in a variety of mental health settings, including community mental health clinics and private practices. I then pursued a master's degree in Marriage and Family Therapy, which provided me with the theoretical foundation and clinical training necessary to become a licensed therapist. During my graduate program, I completed a clinical internship and gained experience working with individuals, couples, and families.

After graduating, I continued to gain experience working in different mental health settings, including a group practice where I provided individual, group and family therapy to those experiencing anxiety disorders and obsessive compulsive disorder.

Overall, my path to becoming a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist has been one of continual learning and growth, and I am passionate about helping individuals and families navigate the challenges of life and relationships.

  • CLINICAL EXPERTISE

I have extensive training cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), exposure and response prevention (ERP), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), family systems therapy and mindfulness. I specialize in treating a variety of anxiety disorders including body focused repetitive behaviors (BFRB), social anxiety, panic disorder, generalized anxiety disorder (GAD), and obsessive-compulsive and other related disorders (OCD).  I am also trained in Habit Reversal Therapy (HRT) to treat Trichotillomania and Comprehensive Behavioral Intervention for Tourette syndrome (CBIT).

I pride myself on developing a deep connection to my clients and create a warm therapeutic relationship needed to achieve results and action while in treatment. I pull from a range of evidence-based therapies to create an approach that works for the individual client. I highly value collaboration with other treatment providers, including with psychiatrists, physicians, and treatment team members.

As a therapist, I believe that it's essential to continue learning and building competencies throughout my career. I stay up to date on the latest research and developments in treating anxiety disorders. I read scholarly articles, attend conferences and workshops, and engage in ongoing training and professional development opportunities. This allows me to stay current on new treatment approaches and techniques, as well as advances in our understanding of mental health conditions. I engage in regular consultation. This means that I meet with other experienced therapists to discuss cases, share knowledge and expertise, and receive guidance and feedback on my clinical work. This helps me to ensure that I am providing the highest quality of care to my clients and continuously improving my skills as a therapist.

I believe that it's important to engage in ongoing self-reflection and self-care as a therapist. This means regularly reflecting on my own biases and assumptions, staying attuned to my own emotional responses and reactions in sessions, and engaging in self-care practices such as mindfulness and exercise to ensure that I am mentally and emotionally healthy and able to provide the best care to my clients. Overall, I believe that ongoing learning and professional development are essential components of being an effective therapist.
